Yes, you can run Hermes Agent on Render. Render publishes a one-click Hermes template that runs it as a Docker web service on the Standard plan ($25 a month for 1 CPU and 2 GB of RAM), with a 5 GB persistent disk that adds $1.25. That is about $26 a month before model usage.
Hivra is the other route: a computer with Hermes already installed, from $9.99 a month for 2 vCPU and 4 GB. Render's template handles the install, and you look after the dashboard login, the browser memory and the upgrades.
What does Render's Hermes template set up?
Render's template deploys Hermes as one Docker web service. It pins a Hermes release, runs the gateway and the Hermes dashboard in the same container, and mounts a 5 GB persistent disk so skills, sessions, memories and keys survive a redeploy. After it deploys, you add a model provider key in the dashboard and connect Telegram, Discord or Slack.
Render says the Free plan cannot run the image and asks for at least the Standard plan. You do not need to write your own Dockerfile for Hermes on Render any more, because the template already has one.
The template also registers Render's own MCP server and skill bundle with the agent, so Hermes can read your Render services and logs if you give it a Render API key. Render warns that a key like that can expose every workspace linked to your account, so use a low-privilege user.
What do you still look after on Render?
The template puts no login in front of the Hermes dashboard. Render's own README says anyone who reaches the URL can read your provider keys, change settings and chat with the agent, and it tells you to add an auth gateway or a private network path. That part is yours to build.
Browser work is yours too. The README says the template does not configure browser automation settings, and that those need a plan with more RAM. Nous's Docker guide adds that Hermes browser tools need extra shared memory.
Upgrades are a choice you make. The template pins one Hermes release, so a newer release means changing that pin and redeploying. Render also says adding a disk stops zero-downtime deploys, so each redeploy leaves the service down for a few seconds.
What does Hermes cost on Render?
Render's Starter compute plan ($7/month) has 512 MB RAM, which is below the plan Render's own Hermes template asks for. The Standard compute plan at $25/month gives 1 CPU and 2 GB RAM, and that is the template's starting point. A 2 CPU and 4 GB plan is $85/month, which is the size to look at if the agent drives a browser.
The template's disk costs $0.25/GB/month, so its 5 GB is $1.25 on top. That makes Hermes about $26 a month on the Standard plan, or about $86 a month on the 2 CPU and 4 GB plan, before model usage.
Hivra starts at $9.99/month for 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM, the same CPU and memory as Render's $85 plan, with Hermes already installed. The $19.99 size gives 4 vCPU and 8 GB. Both prices leave out model usage.
When is Render the better pick?
Pick Render when your team already runs services there and you want the agent next to a Render database or web service. Pick it too if you want the Render MCP tools wired into the agent from the first boot, since Hivra does not include them. Render also hosts static sites for free, which Hivra does not do.
Pick Hivra when the agent is the whole job. You launch a computer with Hermes on it, there is no Docker setup to keep current, and the same dashboard can run Claude Code or Codex on their own computers later.
Feature comparison
| Criterion | Hivra | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Hermes setup | Installed when you launch the computer | One-click template, then add a model key in the dashboard |
| Cheapest size Render's Hermes template runs on | $9.99/mo (2 vCPU, 4 GB) | $25/mo (1 CPU, 2 GB) plus disk |
| Monthly cost for 4 GB RAM | $9.99/mo (2 vCPU, 4 GB) | $85/mo (2 CPU, 4 GB) plus disk |
| Always-on (no sleep) | Paid plans are never paused for inactivity | Free sleeps after 15 idle minutes; paid plans stay up |
| Other agents | Hermes, OpenClaw, Agent Zero, Claude Code and Codex, each on its own computer | Anything you can put in a container, set up by you |
| Render MCP tools in the agent | Not included | Included in the template |
| Static site hosting | Not supported | Free static sites |
Verdict
For running Hermes on its own, Hivra costs less at the same memory and has Hermes installed when you launch. Render's template is a fair way to run Hermes there, and it is the better pick when the agent should sit next to services you already run on Render. Wherever it runs, put a login in front of any Hermes dashboard that faces the internet.

Common questions
Can I run Hermes Agent on Render?
Yes. Render publishes a one-click Hermes template that runs Hermes as a Docker web service with a 5 GB persistent disk. Render asks for at least the Standard plan, which is $25 a month for 1 CPU and 2 GB of RAM.
Does Render's free tier work for Hermes?
No. Render says its Hermes template cannot run on the Free plan. Free web services also spin down after 15 minutes without inbound traffic and cannot attach a persistent disk, so the agent would lose its files and stop answering.
How much does Hermes cost to run on Render?
About $26 a month on the Standard plan with the template's 5 GB disk ($25 plus $1.25), before model usage. The 2 CPU and 4 GB plan is $85 a month plus the disk.
Is the Hermes dashboard on Render password protected?
Not by the template. Render's README says the Hermes dashboard has no login of its own and that anyone who reaches the URL can read your provider keys, so put an auth gateway or a private network in front of it.
Can I run Hermes on Render's cheapest plan with 512 MB RAM?
We do not recommend it. Render's Hermes template asks for the Standard plan, so the $7 plan with 512 MB is below what Render itself suggests. If the agent browses, plan for more memory than that.
What does Hivra add over Render's template?
Hermes installed on a computer from $9.99 a month, the same 2 vCPU and 4 GB as Render's $85 plan, one dashboard for several agents, and a choice of agents including Hermes, OpenClaw, Claude Code and Codex. Hivra does not offer Render's MCP tools or static site hosting.
